What is 10DLC?

A2P 10DLC refers to a system in the United States that allows businesses to send Application-to-Person (A2P) type messaging via standard 10-digit long code (10DLC) phone numbers.

Carriers in the US consider our 3rd Party Provider's traffic to be A2P. Carriers’ A2P 10DLC offerings provide better delivery quality and lower filtering risk than long code SMS of the past, using the same phone numbers.

This is an industry-wide requirement intended to reduce spam, fraud, and unwanted messaging, and protect SMS as a trusted communications channel in the U.S. Every messaging provider who services A2P Campaigns is required to conduct this vetting.

A2P 10DLC is a two step process and each step is independent of the other as it pertains to the overall vetting process:

→ The first part of the process is a Brand registration that can be verified within an hour of sign up.

Even with a registered Brand you are still subjected to delivery restrictions until you are fully verified.

→ The second portion, the campaign verification process, is the step that could take longer and is required before you will be able to have your messages delivered successfully.

What do I need to do?

If you do not need to send any messages to users in the United States, you do not need to register.

If you are not using long code numbers to text US subscribers, you do not need to register for 10DLC. However, other phone number types for toll-free and short codes require registration as well. Fill out our registration form in the compliance section and we'll guide you to the right registration type.

If you send messages to the United States using long code numbers you have the following registration options based on your Tax ID status, volume, and use case:

  • If you have a Tax ID (EIN or Canadian Business Number) and send under 6,000 message segments per day, you should register a Low Volume Standard Brand.

  • If you have a Tax ID (EIN or Canadian Business Number) and send over 6,000 message segments per day, you should register a Standard Brand.

  • If you don’t have a Tax ID (EIN), you should register a Sole Proprietor Brand.

**** If you sign up for SuperPhone® via the mobile app, your monthly fee will be included in the monthly plan price.

What do I do for the Update your Terms & Privacy Policy section?

  • By using SuperPhone® to text subscribers, you’re automatically collecting private information from them, even if it’s just their phone number. You are legally required to have a privacy policy and term sheet in place whenever you do so. In order to pass the vetting, these documents also need to include the wording displayed. You can simply copy and paste it into your documents and then publish them. Afterwards paste the URLs in the form and continue.

  • If you don’t have a privacy policy and / or terms and conditions page published, you will need to create them. There are services available online that generate those files for you and even provide hosting. Just make sure to include the wording displayed, otherwise your campaign will be rejected by carriers.

  • Examples for 3rd party services that support this are termsfeed.com and iubenda.com

How long does the process take?

  • All Campaign approvals are subject to a manual vetting process. A2P 10DLC registration can take 2-3 weeks. Please account for this approval time when planning your registration.

Can I get a refund?

  • The 10DLC registration fees are non-refundable, because we only pass on the cost for starting the registration from carriers. Unfortunately carriers will not refund the money for us so we can’t refund the money to you either.

What happens if I cancel membership - do I still get to keep my registration with that number if I decide to continue again in the future?

  • No. There are monthly fees associated with 10DLC that would void your compliance if missed. You may still have access to your number should you decide to reactivate your account but you would need to re-apply for a new 10DLC registration.

My messages are not sending but I was told I was verified?

  • If you are confident that the number you are sending to is not a landline or the number is active, then reach out to Customer Support. We will look into your account a little further to identify what the issue is.
